The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you.
Do not be like a senseless horse or mule
that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”
Observation (s):
- We have the option of allowing the Lord to guide us on the best pathway of our lives.
The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you. - We have the option of going through life, without God’s guidance, and figuring out our destination and the path to it by trial and error.
Do not be like a senseless horse or mule
that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”
Application:
A bit is the part of the bridle that is inserted into a horse’s mouth, enabling a rider to cue a horse by placing pressure in and around the horse’s mouth. This pressure is used to control the horse’s speed and direction of movement. Through this, the horse is reinforced or rewarded for the correct response by softer contact or a release or pressure.
When we don’t allow God to guide us along the best pathways of our lives, we are forced to be our own compasses (personal guidance system). We charge along with no clear picture of our destination or the road to get there, forcing our life experiences to become the bit in the bridle; the sole means of pinpointing our missteps or checking our speed. Through a process of life’s rewards or punishments, we undergo a painful process of trial and error to get us to the pathways that are meant for us.
Seeking God’s guidance spares us from the trial and error process of being our own compasses as we strive to get to where we are meant to be.
