Observation (s):

1. If the Israelites are unable to follow God’s decrees and regulations, they will be expelled from the land that He has given them.

Application:

To be a part of an earthly institution, one is called to maintain its reputation by following its rules and regulations, regardless of your position or prior excellence. No matter how great or exemplary an employee you were, the minute you stop performing is the minute your boss will start assessing you closely. If that performance continues to decrease, you will start getting warning memos until, eventually, you are fired. Even as a high-performing student, your misdemeanors are generally punished with detentions, as a starting disciplinary measure. If detentions don’t work, it gets escalated to suspensions and finally expulsion. In a marriage, if one party is continuously fails to adhere to set standards, options for separation are explored and executed. Our viability to remain in an institution is continuously measured by the quality of our behaviour and our ability to adhere to the rules and regulations in the present.

Similarly, God’s standards and reputation for Holiness must be maintained by all who are a part of His kingdom and benefitting from the promise. If we are unable to maintain that standard, our expulsion from the promise is quite fair. Our inability to keep God’s decrees and regulations comes at a high price; the loss of our home; the things we are familiar with. Still, the choice is ours: practice God’s standards or be expelled from the land.
