Bible in 365 Days – Day 31

Focus Chapters:

  • Job 40:6-24
  • Job 41-42

Standout Verse(s):

Job 42:1, 42:5-6 NLT

Then Job replied to the Lord:
I had only heard about you before,
but now I have seen you with my own eyes.
I take back everything I said,
and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”

Observation (s):

  1. Job’s initial faithfulness to God as based on what he had heard about God. Yet still, his faith and conviction was such that the book of Job opens with God boasting of Job’s loyalty.

I had only heard about you before,
but now I have seen you with my own eyes.

  2. When Job experienced God for himself (“saw Him”), his perception of God and universal mysteries changed and his behaviour shifted to one of repentance for all the questions he raised during his distress.

I had only heard about you before,
but now I have seen you with my own eyes.
I take back everything I said,
and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”

Application:

It is mind-blowing to realize that Job’s faithfulness was based on what he had heard about God. Can you imagine that? Job demonstrated a level of conviction and faithfulness that was so profound that even God boasted about him! Job’s steadfastness just from hearing of God is so awesome especially when one consider the Christians, of today, who have had personal experiences but are still struggling to achieve such a feat.

Even with his steadfastness, today’s reading demonstrates that Job still had a lot of spiritual growth to achieve. He spent most of the book of Job questioning the way God works. God’s response towards the end of the book made him realize that there are many universal mysteries that he is not privy to. It is comforting to know that God has them all under control. Job’s personal encounter caused a mature shift in his perception of God and the way the world works. What will be the result of your encounter with God?

XOXO,
Chañel
